Locations / Port Coogee

Our beautiful early learning centre is filled with natural light and designed to let the beachside breeze flow through our play spaces. Our children take part in regular excursions to local coastlands and bushlands and learn about our indigenous Australian history as they connect with the local environment.

Our specialised, bespoke furniture and equipment has been designed to cater to the developmental and sensory needs of our children and reflects the beauty and texture of our beachside landscape. Our best practice approaches to early learning and development provide children with the tools and resources to exercise their agency as innovative learners and leaders.

Within our indoor play spaces, children are supported by our experienced educators as they engage in hours of uninterrupted play. Our indoor learning environments are aesthetically beautiful areas where children build happy, lasting friendships with their peers and our educators.

Our outdoor environments include a mixture of natural and built elements with an emphasis on oceanic loose parts that are naturally found along the Port Coogee coastline. Our intentional outdoor classroom encourages children to investigate the natural world as they collect, move, redesign, organise, deconstruct and reconstruct the loose parts in meaningful play experiences.

Meet Our Centre Director – Helen Flugge

I have been working the early years education Sector for 18 years. I have a passion to promote better outcomes for children through education and instil a lifelong passion for learning in the youngest members of our community. At Freo Kids Early Learning Port Coogee there is a feeling of welcome and integration within the surrounding community. There is also a well-shared passion for quality education and inclusion of all children.

My personal philosophy of education involves providing quality, inclusive, play-based education that uses nature, natural light and the environment as a third teacher.  I believe the key to achieving a quality educational program is working in partnership with the child’s first teacher – their families.  I am also a passionate advocate for involving the surrounding community in children’s education so that all influences in a child’s world are working in unison, with the child at the centre of everything that happens.

I feel privileged to have the opportunity to support a team of dedicated and talented educators who delight in the little things that children achieve each day. I look forward to seeing how we grow as individuals and a team.
